Heather Clague, MD, MPH
I am a board-certified psychiatrist providing psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic treatment for adults in Oakland, California. I treat patients for problems with depression and anxiety as well as issues related to relationships and personal growth. I am a level 5 certified master therapist and trainer of TEAM therapy, a framework for effective psychotherapy developed by Dr. David Burns, into which I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), contemporary psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and approaches such as mindfulness, visualization, and compassion practices. I am trained in the Ideal Parent Figure protocol and the Three Pillars approach to attachment disturbances in adults. I provide psychiatric consultation and integrative medication management and enjoy collaborating with non-prescribing therapists. I provide individual and group consultation for other therapists interested in learning TEAM therapy and lead groups to enhance effective communication to improve relationships.
I believe that the therapeutic process must be individualized for each person and that the process of healing and growth is collaborative between therapist and patient. My role is to provide a place to understand a person’s particular circumstances and to offer empathy, insight, and useful tools in a setting of a relationship marked by respect, warmth, and humor.
